Chronic Pain

A holistic approach to Chronic pain recovery

You are a whole person. Pain symptoms do not occur in a vacuum; neither does pain recovery! Recent discoveries in chronic pain suggests that common forms of chronic pain (including back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, whiplash, irritable bowel syndrome, tendonitis, and more) are caused not by structural damage to the body, but by neural circuitry in the brain. This kind of pain is called neural circuit pain. My approach in treating neural circuit pain (also commonly called neural plastic pain, TMS, tension-myositis syndrome, MBS, or mind-body syndrome) is rooted in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Emotional Awareness & Expression Therapy, Polyvagal Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy. These innovative and evidence-based treatments work to interrupt the cycle of persistent pain symptoms and retrain the brain.

The key to pain recovery is getting clear on the source of the pain. As a chronic pain recovery psychotherapist, it is my first goal to assist you in gaining clarity on your unique symptoms. I will happily collaborate with you and your medical provider to create an aligned approach to your recovery, or work with you one-on-one. From this understanding, we will work together to build a treatment plan for your recovery. You will learn to respond to your symptoms calmly and constructively, and re-engage with your mind-body system to retrain it.
